Wastvedt & Company is currently seeking a Tax Manager to join our innovative and expanding firm. The Tax Manager will help lead and manage operations of the tax practice area of the firm. The Tax Manager will also review tax returns, engage in tax planning, conduct research and perform compliance services for clients.

Developing, sustaining and growing excellent client relationships are priorities for this position. Our practice is high-tech and the Tax Manager will use his or her strong technical savvy and leadership skills to assist on all tasks associated with tax engagements, identify best practices and consistently implement process improvements where needed.

The Tax Manager is also responsible for the mentoring and training of junior CPAs and accounting staff.

The Tax Manager will report directly to the firm’s partnership.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Review and manage staff deliverables including tax returns, extensions, tax planning calculations, and write-up work for all entity types
  • Prepare and review complex tax planning projections for individual and corporate estimated tax liabilities
  • Prepare and/or review complex U.S. and multi-state income tax returns for business entities, including consolidated and nonconsolidated C-corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, fiduciary, non-profit organizations, complex U.S. and state individual income, gift tax, and estate tax returns
  • Conduct complex tax research and prepare memorandum outlining findings and conclusions
  • Respond to IRS and state agency audits, inquires, and tax notices. Communicate with IRS and clients in connection with audits, inquires, and tax notices
  • Manage and delegate projects to staff that can handle them most efficiently and provide accounting and tax assistance to staff as needed
  • Communicate directly with existing clients, colleagues, management, and IRS representatives regarding various tax matters
  • Advises, coaches and supports team members including providing consistent recognition and encouragement to team members to increase retention and utilization
  • Assist with employee training for new hires and ongoing employee training
  • Engage in consulting and special projects as requested by management and clients
  • Work with team to encourage and promote a positive corporate culture

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required
  • CPA license required
  • Minimum of 7 years of tax experience gained within a public accounting firm or related experience
  • Experience in high-level review of complex tax returns
  • Proficient in corporate, partnership taxation, and individual taxation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Presentation skills and strong organizational techniques are required
  • Capable of managing multiple client engagements in addition to completing tasks related to business development
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience supervising and training staff and seniors
  • Highly motivated with an energetic attitude
  • Able to attain visibility and recognition within your industry specialization and in your local market

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $84,000 - $120,000
