Two Robots Studios is building Two Robots: Unleashed, a competitive sci-fi card battler designed as a long-term competitive ecosystem, not a disposable content game.
We’re looking for a Competitive Systems Tester to live inside the game, break it intelligently, and help us answer the hardest question early studios avoid:
Is this actually good?
This role sits at the intersection of high-level playtesting, balance analysis, and QA, working directly with our AI balance outputs, designers, and engineers.
If you love card games, understand edge cases, and enjoy proving systems wrong until they hold up, this is for you.
What You’ll Do
Play the game aggressively and intelligently, including:
Testing against AI opponents across difficulty tiers
Attempting to consistently beat the AI using multiple factions and builds
Stress-test card interactions and edge cases, including overlapping states like:
Cleave, Hacked, Stealth, Rusted, Stunned, Shields, buffs/debuffs, etc.
Timing conflicts, priority resolution, and unexpected interactions
Identify balance issues across:
Card Ops costs
Power and Ultimate cooldowns
Mechommander Powers that feel dominant, useless, or degenerate
Review and interpret AI balance system outputs:
Win rates
Card efficiency
Matchup skew
Meta concentration
Make concrete recommendations:
Cards to tweak, remove, or rework
Ops cost adjustments
Ability constraints or rule clarifications
Explore and break non-combat systems, including:
NPC dialogue and interactions
Card trading with NPCs (as features come online)
On-ship meta experience and progression systems
Future card shop flows and economy hooks
Log issues clearly with repro steps, expected behavior, and competitive impact
Who You Are
Deep familiarity with competitive card games (digital or tabletop)
Examples: Hearthstone, MTG, Legends of Runeterra, Slay the Spire, etc.
Comfortable reasoning about systems, probabilities, and incentives
Able to explain why something feels broken, not just that it is
Persistent and curious enough to hunt edge cases instead of playing “normally”
Clear communicator who can translate gameplay findings into actionable feedback
Bonus Points If You
Have worked as a high-level playtester, QA analyst, or balance tester
Enjoy reading balance dashboards or game telemetry
Can consistently outplay AI systems rather than just survive them
Have opinions about what makes a competitive game fair, watchable, and replayable
Like arguing (politely) about game design when the data backs it up
Why This Role Matters
This is not checkbox QA.
You will directly influence:
Whether metas stabilize or collapse
Whether new players churn or stick
Whether tournaments feel fair
Whether our AI balancer is actually telling the truth
Your feedback will shape which cards exist, which die, and which define the game.
Why Join Two Robots Studios?
Work on a live, evolving competitive game with real players
Small, senior team where feedback immediately changes the product
Fully remote and globally distributed
Your impact is visible in patches, balance updates, and tournament outcomes
We value people who make systems stronger, not quieter
Ready to Apply?
To be considered, you must complete our candidate survey. We use it to filter applicants who pay attention to detail and genuinely care about the role — applications without it will not be reviewed.
