Position Overview

The Tool Room Attendant is responsible for maintaining the daily operation and organization of the tool room in a manufacturing environment. This Tool Room Attendant role supports production and maintenance teams by issuing tools, tracking inventory, performing minor repairs, and ensuring equipment is properly stored and ready for use. The ideal Tool Room Attendant is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing inventory while maintaining a safe and efficient workspace.

Required Experience & Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools
• Ability to use computers, inventory systems, and barcode scanners
• Strong attention to detail and inventory accuracy
• Ability to lift 40–50 lbs as needed
• Ability to work independently while supporting production teams

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Issue tools, equipment, and materials to employees following company procedures
• Receive, inspect, and properly store returned tools and equipment
• Maintain accurate tool issuance and return logs using manual or digital systems
• Ensure tools are clean, functional, and ready for use
• Monitor tool inventory levels and notify supervisors when reordering is needed
• Conduct cycle counts and inventory audits to maintain accurate records
• Label and organize tool storage areas for efficient retrieval
• Perform minor repairs, sharpening, and adjustments to tools when needed
• Identify damaged or unsafe tools and remove them from circulation
• Coordinate with vendors for major repairs or calibration services
• Maintain records of tool usage, repairs, and calibration schedules
• Support implementation of tool tracking systems such as barcoding or inventory software
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused tool room environment
• Follow all OSHA guidelines and company safety policies

Preferred Experience

• 1–3 years of experience in a tool room, warehouse, maintenance, or manufacturing environment preferred
• Experience working with measuring devices, industrial tools, or maintenance equipment preferred
