Position Overview

The Saw Operator is responsible for operating metal cutting equipment and supporting daily saw shop operations in a manufacturing environment. This Saw Operator role includes setting up band saws, preparing raw materials for cutting, and ensuring finished parts meet quality and dimensional specifications. The ideal Saw Operator is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of maintaining production efficiency while working with large metal materials and cutting equipment.

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience required
• Strong understanding of metal cutting equipment and shop safety procedures
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders
• Ability to use common power tools and measuring devices safely
• Strong basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure accurately
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine cutting specifications
• Set up and operate metal cutting band saws to process raw materials
• Transfer materials to saw stations manually, by hoist, or overhead crane
• Install saw blades and adjust blade tension and cutting speeds for production
• Position guides, stops, and fixtures to secure workpieces during cutting
• Monitor machine operations and measure completed materials for accuracy
• Operate grinding tools to remove burrs from finished parts
• Unload materials from supply trucks and ensure proper storage
• Transport raw materials using forklifts to saw shop stations
• Maintain awareness of raw material inventory levels and communicate needs to Inventory Control
• Prioritize cutting orders and stage materials to maintain efficient workflow
• Assist with training, troubleshooting, and quality checks for team members
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment

Preferred Experience

• Previous team lead or supervisory experience preferred
• Experience operating forklifts, hoists, or overhead cranes preferred
