Position Overview

The CNC Mill / Lathe Machinist is responsible for producing precision machined parts using CNC milling and lathe equipment while maintaining quality and safety standards. This CNC Mill / Lathe Machinist role includes setting up machines, loading programs, inspecting finished parts, and monitoring machine performance throughout the production cycle. The ideal CNC Mill / Lathe Machinist has strong machining knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow detailed production specifications.

Required Experience & Skills

• Ability to set up and operate CNC mills and lathes
• Strong understanding of machining processes including drilling, turning, grooving, and threading
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing prints
• Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment
• Knowledge of machine feeds, speeds, coolant flow, and cutting parameters
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
• Ability to work safely in a machine shop environment

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate CNC mill and lathe machines to produce precision components
• Set up machines by installing jaws, chucks, tools, and attachments
• Load and verify CNC programs for machining operations
• Review setup process sheets and machining sequences for each job
• Adjust tool offsets, feeds, and speeds to maintain production accuracy
• Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or machining issues
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools to ensure specifications are met
• Install and replace cutting tools and inserts as needed
• Load materials manually or with hoists or cranes when required
• Maintain production records and document job quantities using Job Tracker
• Communicate machine errors or operational issues to the Machine Shop Supervisor
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in a CNC machining or manufacturing environment preferred
• Experience with machine setup and tooling adjustments preferred
