The Manufacturing Tooling Engineer is responsible for the development and qualification of the tooling used for custom made-to-spec components at customer suppliers across product lines. The role starts from DFM of prototype tools through upkeep of mass production duplicate tool. You are the expert in injection molding tool design rules, DFM, engineering changes, and maintenance of plastic. You will use your experiences from various aspects of fabrication, manufacturing, process control, product configuration, new process qualification, 2nd operations to manage supplier to deliver high quality cosmetic components. Other areas of experience to include heat-staking, stamped sheet-metals, vacuum-forming, pad printing.
Responsibilities
• Own the technical development of a tool for plastic injection component.
+ Drive clarity of design benefits, risks, impacts through DFM between supplier and eero engineering.
+ Analyze mold flow, simulation software, drawings, and other data to determine scope of work, estimated cost, and lead-time for fabrication.
+ Evaluates tool designs, drives completion of tool qualifications, first article inspection, cosmetic quality, process validation, failure analysis, process changes and risk analysis
+ Deliver a qualified, repeatable, production process which yields industry best-in-class cosmetic components.
+ Plan for maintenance and engineering changes
+ Employee statistical principles for part qualification
• Collaborate with product design team and manufacturing design engineer on product architecture to ensure success in mass production.
• Partner with SQE to drive yield improvement at supplier
+ Monitor and validate existing molding processes and molds to identify improvement opportunities
+ Track defects and address failure pareto for technical modifications contributing to improvement
• Concerned with details
+ Understand and communicate technical documentation for product tracking all revisions of parts, documents, part markings, and go/no-go for each DFM request
+ Ensure that vendor documentation is aligned with in-house PDM data.
+ Collaborate with Manufacturing Design Engineer on manufacturing BOM requirements.
