Our client, a unique and thriving online film school serving writers, actors, and filmmakers, is seeking an Operations Manager interested in becoming the Director of Operations within 1-2 years.
The school has doubled in size each year for the last 4 years, and our client is seeking a creative, intrapreneurial-minded leader with experience growing startups. You’ll be working closely with the CEO in leading the school towards and through exponential growth. All work is remote.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Collaborate with CEO
Strategize with the CEO to arrive at exciting long-term goals, and sensible short-term goals.
Achieve autonomy quickly while staying in close communication.
Oversee all operations
Remove the CEO from all day-to-day operations as early in the process as possible.
Keep your hands in each part of the business, remaining aware of every detail and its interconnectedness to the rest, while maintaining a bird’s eye view of the whole.
Identify and remove bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
Create and implement systems, processes, metrics, and KPIs that align with our goals.
Manage the budget
Oversee and design the budget; minimize expenses and optimize profits.
Negotiate pay that will keep us on budget while attracting and retaining A players.
Invest boldly in marketing efforts on the basis of data and realistic projections.
Manage the team
Delegate wisely, and empower team members to become proactive and autonomous.
Build clear accountability systems, and supervise team members to meet KPI’s.
Train the team to update, improve, and maintain current systems and SOP’s.
Hire, onboard, and train A-players.
Keep an eye out for the person who will replace you when the role becomes too easy and you’re ready for bigger challenges – hopefully within the company!
ABOUT THE SCHOOL, A NOTE FROM THE CEO:
I’m a writer-director of independent films; primarily comedies, though I love a good tear jerker. I’m currently developing a half-hour comedy series that addresses the climate emergency. (Hope and empowerment is the name of the game.)
I’ve trained thousands of writers and filmmakers since 2006. In 2018 I moved the operation online, and that’s when it turned from “me teaching stuff” to a thriving and scalable business.
The secret to our success is that the film industry is majorly bro, and we’re majorly not.
Most film schools are harsh and competitive places. When artists find us, they often feel like they found the oasis they didn’t know they were looking for. We serve artists by building skills; building community; and building our students’ confidence.
Why we thrive:
Our audience is vast but niche, easy to find, and we know them because we are them. Our offers are unique and desperately needed. Our marketing and messaging are relevant, consistent, and effective. We’ve never run an ad campaign that wasn’t profitable (highly unusual!) In the sea of marketing aimed at attracting our audience, we stick out as different. We’re an untapped goldmine.
Non tangible job perks:
Besides percentages of net profits as you lead us to agreed upon benchmarks –
We have an exceptional team. We’ve been impeccably organized (you’re welcome). We have a cadre of enthusiastic and highly skilled coaches who have studied with me for years.
You’ll feel valued, appreciated, well supported, and trusted. You’ll feel that your work makes a positive and significant impact in the world (we really do change lives). When it comes to “job satisfaction” – I’d put money on it that once you join us, you’ll never want to leave.
ABOUT YOU:
You spot and seize opportunities, take initiatives, and can make fast decisions.
You think ahead about possible problems before they arise, and you enjoy problem solving.
You solicit input from the team, and then exercise judgment and confidently make decisions.
You can handle a fast pace, competing priorities, and you’re cool under pressure.
Proven experience in Operations, Project Management, or Business Management roles.
You’re prepared to focus on the school and will not juggle other clients or businesses.
Ability to work standard business hours in EST.
Nice to have’s:
Experience with the online course space, membership sites, and scalable, high ticket coaching programs.
Versed in email marketing, lead magnets, funnels, webinars, live and evergreen program launches.
Sense of humor strongly advised.
