About OnFinality (+ SubQuery)
OnFinality is an organisation dedicated to providing key infrastructure services to the Blockchain community. OnFinality, and its child projects SubQuery and Aoraki, is a small but growing organisation based in Auckland providing services to the world.
OnFinality’s aim is to support growing teams with infrastructure and API services. We provide easy to use infrastructure automation tools to reduce the amount of time development teams need to spend managing and deploying infrastructure. We also provide free mission-critical public services to various networks via our API service (providing over 50 million API requests each day).
SubQuery is all about making the world’s decentralised data more accessible. Every team needs to process and query decentralised data - historically this data is in a format that makes it difficult to read. We transform and save this data to make it easier and faster to allow it to be used in more complex applications.
Aoraki is a new protocol that makes doing business easier for decentralized service providers. With three core offerings designed to meet the unique billing and funding challenges faced by decentralized service providers, we want to empower service providers of all sizes to develop innovative products and services in web3, whilst at the same time providing much-needed flexibility for consumers in how they pay for products and services.

About the Role
We’re looking for someone to join our small but growing engineering team to help scale our services for the Polkadot ecosystem and maintain our lead and reputation as the premiere infrastructure provider (serving 1,500 JSON RPC requests every second).
We count on our site reliability engineers (SREs) to maintain mission critical services for customers around the world with first class availability and performance. As we expand our customer deployments, we are currently seeking an experienced SRE to bring fresh ideas to allow us to scale to a billion requests each day.
Responsibilities
Manage the operation production systems by monitoring availability, deployments, and taking a holistic view of system health
Continually search out approaches and opportunities to improve the reliability, quality, and scale of our platform by gathering and analyzing metrics and historical data
Develop and own best practices for managing production infrastructure: provisioning, application scaling, configuration management, capacity planning, monitoring, etc.
Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large distributed software applications while our key staff in New Zealand are offline (1100-1800 UTC time)
Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning
Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives
What we’re looking for
2-4 years of experience as a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer
Highly self-motivated, ability to work autonomously and proactively
Experience designing and operating large-scale, multi-region production systems
AWS experience
Experience building deployment pipelines leveraging common CI/CD tools
Experience with Terraform and CloudFormation
Experience with distributed storage technologies like NFS, HDFS, S3 as well as dynamic resource management frameworks (Docker and Kubernetes)
Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis
An understanding of security best practices
Ability to program with one or more high level languages, such as Python, Shell, and JavaScript
A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks
