Job Responsibilities

Position Summary

Morbark’s Manufacturing Engineer position works as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in manufacturing.  Manufacturing Engineers work under minimal supervision and independently prepare, conduct, and evaluate analyses for planning process implementation of new or modified product designs to the factory.  The Manufacturing Engineer will also lead problem solving for manufacturing issues (production methods and procedures) in a specific function (including layout, production flow, tooling, and production equipment, material fabrication, assembly methods, and planning) in a Pre-Production, Production, or Post-Production environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform technical analysis of manufacturing processes to support management decisions
  • Design / direct the acquisition, design, fabrication, and repair of all necessary tooling and machines
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day process performance issues, develop solutions, and monitor improvements
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of manufacturing best practices, product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, test methods, and quality control standards
  • Validate process cycle times by conducting time studies
  • Provide day-to-day coaching duties in absence of team leader
  • Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements
  • Determine manufacturing time and cost of new assemblies; provide Production Managers with a labor quote
  • Work with suppliers to determine product specifications and conformance to quality standards, and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or part

Skills Required

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering

Experience

  • Lean Certification
  • 3 – 5 years of manufacturing engineering related experience
  • Experience working with 3D Modeling (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Prior experience working in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Experience in conducting time studies
  • Experience identifying and developing solutions to Safety, Quality and Velocity issues in a shop floor environment
  • Experience with ERP – preferred
  • Metal Forming/Welding/Fabrications experience in a manufacturing environment – preferred

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers
  • Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to effectively establish, understand, and communicate with individuals at multiple levels of the organization, including shop floor and office
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts
  • Formal Problem Solving training/skills
