Position: The Department of Speech and Hearing Science (http://shs.illinois.edu) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in medical speech-language pathology. Areas of specialization may include voice disorders, dysphagia, motor speech disorders, aphasia, and cognitive-communication disorders due to acquired brain injury, in the pediatric or adult population. The position offers numerous opportunities to engage in basic, clinical, and translational research through interdisciplinary programs and institutes. The position is available August 16, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates at the assistant professor rank must (i) hold a doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field by the start date, and (ii) have the potential to develop a funded research program. Qualified candidates at the associate professor rank must have a record of external funding, demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring, and the potential to collaborate with faculty through existing campus initiatives.
Preferred Qualification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.

Responsibilities: Successful applicants will: conduct and publish research; seek external funding to support research activities; mentor students; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders; engage in professional and public engagement activities; and contribute to the missions of the department, college, and university.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Academic Environment: Speech and Hearing Science is a highly collegial and collaborative department, situated in the College of Applied Health Sciences on the main campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and includes: (a) the recently renovated Speech and Hearing Science Building that houses academic, research, and collaborative spaces; (b) the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Clinic; and (c) the Collaboration Lab that houses clinical faculty offices, a classroom, multiple study spaces for clinical graduate students, and private spaces for telepractice. Our department offers an undergraduate degree and three graduate degrees—M.A., Au.D., and Ph.D. Its mission is to engage in research, education, and outreach activities that enhance communication across the lifespan, integrating research and clinical applications from the biological, behavioral, and social sciences.
