Head of Production

[REMOTE]

01 Dec 2022

Job Brief:

Doing Things Media is looking for a skilled Head of Production to join our growing team. As our Head of Production, you’ll help scale our original production efforts, while ensuring our in-house video editing team is running efficiently and effectively to support some of the best-loved shows on social media, like Recess Therapy and Bob Does Sport

In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our existing original shows have the production resources they need — both by guiding a team of video editors day-to-day and by rolling up your sleeves and diving into the work yourself. You’ll use your experience in social-first content to make sure our shows are fully optimized for YouTube, TikTok, Reels, and more. At the same time, you’ll help us expand into new areas of production — including new shows and standalone videos for our portfolio of 25+ digital-first brands.

You will be the one responsible for bringing new creative video concepts to life. Day to day, this will include creating and managing production schedules, coordinating with talent, overseeing video editors, providing feedback on and approving video cuts, building and managing a freelance network, and working on content yourself, among other things.

Our ideal candidate is someone who’s a whiz at all things production, and is very much a “no job is too small” type of person. You’re an energetic, effective team leader, but you’re also not afraid to step into the fray and make things happen — you understand that this is a young team and sometimes an “all hands on deck” approach is the best way to get things done. You also have experience in digital-first media, and know how to create engaging, wildly shareable video content across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and more. You are adaptable and driven, and excited by the idea of working in a fast-based start-up.

This role is eligible for remote work (though on-site production work may be needed from time to time).

Responsibilities:

  • Taking creative concepts for shows (and other original video concepts) and working with the production team to create engaging, shareable, entertaining video content
  • Managing a team of video editors and freelancers, and putting light-touch processes in place to ensure team efficiency
  • Working with video editors to help them create the best content possible — including giving feedback on drafts and approving final cuts
  • Staying super close to analytics, and using them to develop best practices and help build a loyal, highly engaged audience of rabid fans across our brands
  • Keeping performance goals top of mind, and making sure you hit or exceed them
  • Staying close to other team members to share ideas, successes, and challenges across departments and brands

Skills Required:

  • 4+ years of production experience, with a track record of delivering top-quality, efficiently produced content
  • Deep experience in social-first content, and an intuitive understanding of how to optimize content across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Experience managing a production or video team, with all the day-to-day responsibilities that entails — including overseeing production schedules and video editors from conceptualization to delivery
  • Strong creative instincts and skills when it comes to making good video content, and an ability to guide video editors to make the best product possible
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the best practices around video production and software
  • A strong network of freelancers you can tap into as needed, or the know-how to build one
  • A background in comedy and/or entertainment content is a huge plus
