Production Team Lead

Located in Abbotsford British Columbia we are a small but busy warehouse providing finishing (stain or paint) for our windows and door customers; both residential and commercial for over 30 years. We are looking for a Production Team Lead to manage our existing team as we expand our production services to deliver on the flawless service we are well known for.

 

The Production Team Lead is responsible for the leading a small group of five (+) team members to achieve day-to-day production goals within the warehouse, consistent with lean company operating standards. The Team Lead will oversee Improvements to productivity by ensuring production staff are fully trained to execute job tasks, without compromising quality. This newly created role will support the company growth plans, whilst we service our existing customers. Management and Hands-on Responsibilities:

- Provides direct supervision reviewing the daily scope of work and determining productivity requirements to meet the overall objectives.

- Devise strategies that would help to reduce production costs without compromising the standard of end products

- Enforce safety rules on their team members to avoid them getting badly injured in cases of accidents and production hazards

- Perform regular performance reviews on team members

- Inspect work done by team members to ensure that they meet company standards of good quality

- Supervises and routinely checks all inbound and outbound shipments to ensure they are correct and carried out in a timely fashion

- Coordinates the usage and maintenance of equipment with management

- Makes recommendations to management on initiatives and programs to improve operations and works on those programs

- Prepare surfaces for stain & lacquer finishes

- Sand, prime, stain and/or spray window, doors, cabinets etc. for finishing

- Prepare items for finish applications by hand and using shop power tools/equipment

- Maintain and clean equipment and work area

 

Requirements Qualifications:

The following are key skills, knowledge, and abilities expected of the leader of a production team to succeed in the role:

- Exhibit great strength and stamina to withstand long hours of working and lifting heavy equipment

- Showcase good leadership and motivation skills to lead different people with different abilities and character traits

- He/she would be expected to know how to communicate efficiently both in oral and written English language, as this is an English-speaking shop

- Must be a swift learner and an excellent coach to train their teammates and so would be expected to have excellent problem-solving skills to effectively handle the challenges and problems in the production department

- He/she would also be expected to understand the importance of time management and be always proactive

- Experience managing 5+ people

- 3 years of leadership experience

- 4 years of warehouse/production experience along with relevant experience as a Finisher or Painter

- Knowledge of production safety and regulations

- Knowledge of water-based lacquer, paints, and glazes

- Basic knowledge of carpentry an asset

- Knowledge of safe operation of hand and power tools

- Preferred: 2 years’ lean experience in a production facility environment, driving lean cultural change across the organization.

- Able to lift to 50lbs and pushing/pulling various objects as required

- Ability to read a tape measure and has essential mathematical skills

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- 4 years of warehouse/production experience

- Proven safety track record in a distribution/warehouse environment

- Both Forklift and Reach Truck experience with a current valid forklift certificate

- Ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with fellow employees and customers

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required:

- Steel-toed shoes

- Safety glasses (will be provided)
