Job Brief:
Position: Upholsterer
Location: Condell Park, NSW
Job type: Full Time, 38 hours/week
Salary range: AUD 80,000 - 90,000

Responsibilities:

  • Perform upholstery tasks such as stitching, fabric application, and finishing.
  • Work with various fabrics and materials to achieve the desired look and durability.
  • Complete upholstery projects according to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Work with designers and production managers to understand project requirements, timelines, and resources.
  • Check completed work for any issues and defects, and correct them if necessary.
  • Ensure all finished products meet company quality standards and client expectations.
  • Choose suitable fabrics and materials for each project based on design, functionality, and budget.
  • Assist in keeping track of upholstery materials and report when supplies are low.
  • Keep upholstery tools and equipment clean and in working order.
  • Report any issues with equipment or safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Communicate with team members and management to help keep projects on track.
  • Attend production meetings to learn about project updates and processes.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines in the workplace.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety practices.

Requirements:

  • Certificate III or equivalent qualification in Upholstery, Furniture Manufacturing or a related trade is desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience as an Upholsterer, Furniture Upholsterer or in a closely related role.
  • Demonstrated experience in repairing, restoring and reupholstering furniture.
  • Skilled in measuring, cutting and fitting upholstery fabrics, leather, vinyl, foam and other materials.
  • Skilled in repairing and replacing springs, webbing, padding and furniture frame components.
  • Competent in sewing and joining upholstery fabrics and operating relevant sewing equipment.
  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools and upholstery equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently produce quality finishes.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand and respond to customer requirements.
  • Ability to work independently, manage tasks within required timeframes and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to assess damage and determine appropriate repair or restoration methods.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
