The General Manager holds overall responsibility for the leadership, growth, and day-to-day management of GC Vivablast Australia (GCVBA). Reporting to the Board of Management, the role carries full accountability for the company’s commercial performance, operational delivery, safety and compliance, and the development of the GCVBA brand and its technology-partner network across the Australian wind energy and industrial services market.
The General Manager sets strategic direction, builds and leads a high-performing team, and represents GCVBA to clients, partners, and industry stakeholders. The role demands a balance of commercial leadership, operational discipline, and an uncompromising commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and execute GCVBA’s business strategy in line with the objectives set by the Board of Management.
- Identify and develop new market opportunities across wind energy services and industrial surface treatment, including blade maintenance, surface preparation, and advanced (e.g. laser) cleaning technologies.
- Lead business development – tenders, proposals, and key-account growth – to build a sustainable and profitable project pipeline.
- Represent GCVBA at industry events, exhibitions, and forums, strengthening brand visibility and market positioning.
Operations and project delivery
- Oversee the planning, mobilisation, and delivery of all field operations and projects to agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
- Ensure manpower, equipment, and materials are planned and deployed efficiently across concurrent sites.
- Establish and maintain effective operational systems, workflows, and reporting to support consistent, high-quality delivery.
- Monitor project performance and intervene early to resolve technical, commercial, or resourcing issues.
Commercial and financial management
- Hold full profit-and-loss accountability for GCVBA, managing revenue, cost, and margin to meet Board targets.
- Approve and control budgets, expenditure, and procurement within delegated authority.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial and management reporting, in compliance with Australian statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Drive cost-efficiency without compromising safety, quality, or delivery performance.
Client and partner relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, asset owners, and OEMs across the wind energy sector.
- Manage and develop GCVBA’s technology-partner network, ensuring alignment, performance, and mutual value.
- Negotiate commercial agreements, partnership terms, and contracts in conjunction with the Board and legal counsel.
- Act as the senior point of contact and escalation for key clients and partners.
Health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ)
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with Australian WHS legislation and relevant industry standards.
- Maintain and continually improve the company’s integrated management system and ISO certifications.
- Ensure all field activities are conducted in line with approved procedures, risk assessments, and client requirements.
- Hold ultimate accountability for the health and safety of all personnel and subcontractors engaged on GCVBA operations.
People and organisational leadership
- Build, lead, and motivate a capable team, fostering skill development, accountability, and clear lines of responsibility.
- Establish and maintain an effective organisational structure aligned to business needs.
- Set performance expectations, provide coaching, and manage performance across the team.
- Promote the company’s values and a professional, collaborative working culture.
Authorities
- Make operational and commercial decisions within the authority delegated by the Board of Management.
- Approve expenditure, resourcing, and procurement within agreed financial limits.
- Negotiate and recommend contracts, partnership agreements, and pricing for Board approval where required.
- Recommend appointments, promotions, rewards, and disciplinary actions to the Board of Management.
- Represent and commit GCVBA in dealings with clients, partners, and suppliers within delegated authority.
Key performance indicators (indicative)
- Achievement of revenue, margin, and growth targets.
- Safety performance – e.g. lost-time injury frequency rate, incident close-out, and audit results.
- Project delivery against schedule, budget, and quality.
- Client satisfaction, retention, and secured repeat business.
- Technology-partner network performance and expansion.
- Maintenance of ISO and other compliance certifications.
Qualifications and experience
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, business, or a related discipline – or equivalent senior industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior operational or general-management role, ideally in wind energy, industrial services, or surface treatment. Proven P&L and team-leadership experience.
- Relevant WHS and industry safety certifications. NACE / FROSIO or equivalent surface-treatment and coating knowledge advantageous. Recognised management or leadership training desirable.
- Strategic and commercial acumen. Strong leadership and people management. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement. Sound financial and operational judgement. Fluent English; willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
