The Role
We are seeking a talented and passionate Elevator Fitter to join our team. In this role, you will be working in conjunction with the Installation Project Manager and Service Coordinator and reporting to the Operations Manager to provide best practice in the installation of lift components, maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting of all vertical transport products and related equipment supplied or maintained by Old Mate Elevators Pty Ltd (OME). Working with the Installation Project Manager and Service Coordinator to streamline and improve efficiencies within the departments and meet KPIs on a quarterly basis.
Responsibilities:
The Elevator Fitter will be responsible for the following tasks:
· Reviewing elevator blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications to determine project requirements, identify necessary materials, and plan the sequence of elevator installation, wiring, and operational testing.
· Devise, implement, and maintain best practice installation solutions.
· Fitting and securing manufactured metal components and subassemblies, such as guide rails, car frames, counterweights, and machinery, within lift shafts and machine rooms.
· Verifying the accuracy, clearance, and proper fit of installed mechanical and structural parts using precision measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, laser alignment tools, and spirit levels to ensure compliance with strict safety and operational standards.
· Ensure project scope is adhered to throughout the installation process.
· Adjusting elevator guide rails, stops, and control systems during installation to ensure proper alignment and smooth operation. Installing and configuring specialized tools and equipment required for on-site modifications to elevator components.
· Precisely forming metal components and assemblies using techniques like cutting, grinding, and drilling to achieve required tolerances for proper alignment and integration within the lift system.
· Cutting, threading, bending, and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines that power lift doors, braking systems, and other auxiliary functions.
· Setting up and adjusting the mechanical and electromechanical components that govern the operation and safety features of the lift.
· Diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic faults in installed lifts, performing routine operational maintenance, and carrying out overhauls and repairs on mechanical parts and fluid power equipment.
· Rectify breakdown issues.
· Procure the required materials to resolve the breakdown.
· Work in a timely and conscientious manner to carry out extensive checks of all critical safety apparatus on the vertical transport product, including emergency telephone systems.
· Assembling and installing complete lift systems on-site in both residential and commercial buildings, ensuring all mechanical components are correctly integrated and ready for electrical connection and testing.
· Ensure that operational H&S requirements as per Old Mate Elevators (OME) H&S Policy & Procedure document are met and adhered to.
Promptly report all accidents, hazards, near-miss events, and property damage by advising the office at your first opportunity.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Successful applicants must have:
● Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, which covers fitting, machining, maintenance, and repair, Certificate IV in Engineering, or its equivalent. However, at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications.
